E-Visa Required for U.S., Canadian, and Australian Citizens Traveling to Brazil

15 Apr

As of April 10, 2025, citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia are required to obtain an electronic visa (e-visa) to enter Brazil for tourism, business, sports activities, artistic performances, or airport transit. The e-visa may be valid for up to 10 years, and the maximum length of stay authorized on the e-visa is 90 days.

In addition to visitors, this visa requirement will also affect U.S., Canadian, and Australian citizens who have renewed their residence but have not yet obtained an updated RNM ID card and find themselves outside of Brazil. Individuals in this situation must obtain an e-visa to re-enter Brazil, as they will not have proof of valid residence status and will only be permitted to board a return flight to Brazil if they hold an e-visa. At entry, in addition to the e-visa, they must present a Certificate of Pending Application to be admitted into the country as a resident rather than a visitor.

While the e-visa requirement is currently in force, the measure is still pending a final review by the House of Representatives in Brazil. Until a final decision is reached, the measure will remain in place for citizens of the U.S., Canada, and Australia.
