RUSSIA – Host Address May Now Be Used for In-Country Registration

7 Dec

Business travelers who are required to register upon arrival to Russia may now register the address of their inviting organization or host company with the Federal Migration Service.  The implementation of this new rule and additional option follows a decision by Russia’s Constitutional Court earlier this year in July 2017.

Before this change, foreign nationals in Russia could only use their Russian residential address or their employer’s address in Russia for registration, which made it difficult to comply with the registration requirement for trips to visit customers or third party organizations when the traveler did not have a residential address or an employer in Russia. The execution of this new rule is still being implemented throughout local migration authorities and so it is advised that the inviting organization or host company check with their local migration authority to confirm their willingness to accept registration under the business address.
