Temporary Restraining Order Granted Against Trump’s Attempt to End Automatic Birthright Citizenship

27 Jan

As widely expected, on President Trump’s first day in office, he issued an Executive Order for the stated purpose of limiting automatic birthright citizenship universally to all those born within the United States.

In a hopeful sign of things to come in light of Trump’s many immigration-related Executive Orders during his first few days in office, a federal judge in Seattle has granted an emergency temporary restraining order sought by several states halting the implementation until February 6 in order to allow briefings on the matter. A hearing is scheduled on February 6 to determine whether to issue a preliminary injunction, which would block the executive order long term while the case proceeds.

Foster will continue to review and monitor the effect of this Executive Order and provide updates of any new orders impacting immigration as they are released. Clients who have concerns about the impact of this Executive Order on their specific case should contact their Foster attorney to schedule a consultation. www.fosterglobal.com
