The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) has announced upcoming changes to the naturalization test with the stated goals of creating a more “meaningful, uniform, and efficient test that will assess applicants’ knowledge and understanding of U.S. history, government and values.” The new version of the test will contain updated test questions and will have a revised English language speaking requirement. The new test is anticipated to be implemented in late 2020 or early 2021. Updated study guides are also anticipated to be released to correspond to the new test, the current versions of the guides can be found here.
While the specific changes to the test have not yet been released, qualified applicants for naturalization may want to consider submitting their naturalization application at the earliest possible opportunity and before these changes are in place. Please contact your Foster LLP attorney if you would like to review eligibility for naturalization.
